Fonts are blurry, pixelated, or rasterized
There are many ways to describe a font that does not appear with well-defined lines. A true vectorized font should always have clean and sharp edges when shown on the screen or paper. It should continue to have well-defined edges when you zoom to the maximum level your PDF viewer supports.
If your font edges look pixelated when you zoom in, it may be because Windows decided to handle it as a bitmap font instead of a vector-based font. This can happen even if the font definition is vector-based. It can happen in the following scenarios:
- You are using a font in a size that does not come naturally. Some fonts do not scale well. It is typically a problem if you make the font small or if you hit a size that lies between two more natural sizes.
- Your custom font in the report is also installed as a normal font on the machine that renders the report. When the software loads a custom font already on the machine, Windows sometimes makes it a bitmap font instead of a vector font. Therefore, we switched to a strategy where we disregard the custom font in the report layout if the font is already on the machine. This was first introduced in version 7.1.0.2426.
